As a teacher, I had not realized how important the topic of plagiarism is. We as educators tend to put more focus on the aspect of detecting plagiarism instead of preventing it. By using certain strategies in the classroom that help prevent plagiarism from occurring, the problematic of having unwilling writers and /or cheating writers can decrease. I have learned that if a teacher is clear in what he or she wants from an assignment and maintains that clarity throughout the process, students are able to ably by the established rules and not cheat. Writing is a process and not a product, therefore by taking the student step by step all through the way minimal uncertainties can come up and more productive assignments can rise.
While working on this multi genre project, I felt that my message was being established with more clarity because of the different techniques used to carry the message across. I believe that the message would not have been perceived the same way by writing an essay, which some can find boring or too long to read. I hope that who ever takes a sneak peek of my multi genre project can, with full view and clarity, understand the importance of have anti plagiarism strategies in the classroom and being firm and concise about them.
I chose to write a poetic advise column, a newspaper article and a recipe in order to drive my message across. These three different styles were appealing to me because they seem as fun and attractive to readers who may have no idea what my project is about to explain to them. I hope every one enjoys it as well as I did.
